Spotlight: IC2 Experimental - Heat Generators and Machines

174 ratings | 22454 views
Updated: This video covers 1.7.10 version of Minecraft and Forge. Information presented may be out of date for newer versions. In this spotlight video I go over heat generators, plus some machines that use that heat to process materials, and how to use the heat mechanic in a system to produce something. This video doesn't cover The Turning Table, because that machine was covered here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCAeI6MvPQs

Thank you. I couldn't figure out how to get the electric heater to work. I had no idea about it needing copper coils. I liked and subbed and look forward to more good videos

lack information for heat --> steam --> EU :(

Very nice and super useful tutorial. Thank you! Btw, you don't need to put Emerald Pipe adjacent to the Pump because Pump always auto-ejects :)

Im sort of having trouble with this setup, as how can i transport water into the Steam Generator without buildcraft items?
DimensionsInTime (1 year ago)
All depends on what else you have installed. I used bdew's Pressure Pipes sometimes, or Thermal Expansion (now Thermal Dynamics) Fluiducts.

Yes, I see the time stamp, but I'll ask anyway. I'd like a response, but don't expect one: I am trying to use the electric heat generator for the blast furnace, but The heat generator won't accept EU to convert to HU. It has three coils in it at the moment, and a cable running into the side that is being supplied with power.
Scawsome (1 year ago)
Might've been, though this was one of the mekanism windmills, makes around 120 rf/t, and the other machines were not running. Maybe it was just an incompatibility. Thanks for the help though
DimensionsInTime (1 year ago)
Aha! That rednet cable might've been the problem - I think max the windmills produce 40RF per tick, and those rednet cables convert 1EU for every 4RF so likely the other machines were drawing all your power. Bet if you bypass the other machines it might work. Or it could just be some kind of incompatibility with the heat machines in code. Either way, at least you found the solution.

I was using the rednet energy cable from MFR. The one that can convert from RF to EU. (Because I was drawing power from an RF windmill). I was also running a compressor and a metal former from the same line, so I know it can convert just fine, and it did show a connection to the Electric Heater.

I'm not actually sure which forge file has the version, so I'll just type the two most likely here. If it is neither of these, I'm running the most recent version of Bevo's Tech Pack on the ATLauncher. ForgeMultipart-1.7.10-1.2.0.345-universal forge-1.7.10-10.13.4.1614-1.7.10-universal
DimensionsInTime (1 year ago)
Interesting! Glad you found a "workaround". What version of Forge are you running so I can try to reproduce? Also, what cable did you have running into it?

gonna use that coolant factory in my world, thanks man!

i got an idea for ic2 : heat cables! so that you can transfer heat
DimensionsInTime (1 year ago)
Hey, that's a good idea!

What other mods did u use in this? I know one of them is BuildCraft, but wut r da others?
DimensionsInTime (2 years ago)
Hi, I just added this to the mod list on http://www.dimensionsintime.info/mods - the ones that jump out when watching are Buildcraft, Buildcraft Additions, EnderIO, Engineer's Toolbox, Iron Chests 2, JourneyMap, OpenBlock Tanks, and WAILA.
Mato Uzumaky (2 years ago)
for me the Electric one does not trensfer heat 2 my compressor... It glows however the compressor does not recieve it and I have them placed correctly...
Mato Uzumaky (2 years ago)
thank you
DimensionsInTime (2 years ago)
Hi Mato, first thanks for watching! The compressor uses EU, not heat. Simply hook some power up to it and it should work fine. Be careful depending on your pack/set up, though. The Compressor can only take low voltage EU in some settings. Anything over 32 EU/t will cause it to explode!
legentlemanfr (2 years ago)
hey buddy could we use the steam generator to make EU? and whats the difference with normal machine and kinetic machine? (im french) ^^
DimensionsInTime (2 years ago)
The kinetic machines all produce a "spin" of some sort. The kinetic steam generator takes steam fed into it and turns a turbine to create kinetic energy (KU). You hook up a kinetic generator to it to generate EU. In order to make EU from the steam generator you follow this order: Steam Generator > Steam > Kinetic Steam Generator > Kinetic Generator. See my Nuclear video to see a detailed description on how this is done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iK_tP9ji-c

real world example? lol

Ha! Missed this comment previously. I guess "Minecraft Word Example" is better..

I put in coal into the heat generator but it never generates heat, only shows what level of heat it could generate
Tilt Eden Patates (2 years ago)
ı put coal into the heat generator but it use 1 coal and it stop. if ı take coal and ı put again it don't work?
DimensionsInTime (2 years ago)
Liam, assuming you're talking about the Solid Heat Generator? I think you're confusing what the interface is showing. It shows 0 / 20 (or whatever number). That's the heat being transferred, not generated. When you put coal in, you'll see the burn animation and if you look at the outside of the block, you'll see the elements on the side are glowing. If you put a machine next to it that accepts heat, you'll start to see that transferred number working. For example, put a Stirling Generator next to your Solid Heat Generator. It will accept the heat being generated, then you'll see those numbers working.
rapermenas (2 years ago)
What is the new machine called "Stirling Kinetic Generator"? It came with version #787. I guess its for making kinetic energy from the heat, but idk how co configure the inventory of that machine to work. Could someone explain how to set it up?
rapermenas (2 years ago)
+DimensionsInTime thank you very much for the answer, gladly I found some info after more deep search :) more videos about this mod or more wiki would be very appreciated. Feels like they're just releasing the mod updates and do not explain anything about the changes.
DimensionsInTime (2 years ago)
+rapermenas I probably should make a video outlining the kinetic stuff. I'll try this weekend.
