Anyone know how to make a sprite move with arrow keys?
Camelot (2 years ago)
+Lucas R. Well, sprites are images that are put in objects so making sprites move isn't exactly possible. However, making objects move is. First, go to your object of choice and place a piece of code in your step event. Then just paste this code into the piece of code in the object's step event: if keyboard_check(vk_left) x -= 5 if keyboard_check(vk_right) x += 5 if keyboard_check(vk_up) y -= 5 if keyboard_check(vk_down) y += 5 It works by checking to see if you are pressing an arrow key every frame. If you are, it'll move the object on the coordinate plane in the direction you're pressing. Also, nice profile pic :3

When I want to use a script and after I create it and want to use it game maker marks it with orange and can't use it, why does this happen? Pd sorry for my bad English
GravityShift Games (2 years ago)
+Yeypy Padilla, Remember to add opening and closing brackets after your script name. E.g. myScript();

Thanks for covering BOTH ways to use a script!

What the hell, you are not teaching how to make a script from the basic.

Can the arguments passed into a script be changed within the script (by reference) or are they a just a copy of the variables (by value)

I think your tutorials could use this old saying... "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, feed him for life."

Kreith (4 years ago)

GravityShift Games (4 years ago)
+Krieth You'll need to add fnt_large as a font resource before you use it.

Keep making these tutorials. They are very helpful even for an old guy like me :-)

Does fa_centre work for draw_set_valign instead of fa_middle? P.S.  Pro tip, (sif I'm a pro)  If you preface the script code with... ///scr_wordCount(string); it will display that info in the status bar like built in functions do so when you go to use the script, if you have a lot of arguments you can remember each argument without having to go into the script to check what each is for.  If you get my drift.
