This data collection is harmless. Unlike KSP's data collection, which has led to me to make the decision not to buy KSP.

I legitimately don't see the problem with collecting ingame data, even without anonymity. I mean, it's not like they're tracking the home addresses or family names of the people who play (actually I can see why anonymity would be good for names and stuff). I mean, I just don't feel like this is comparable to, say, Facebook collecting what your face looks like, where you live, etc. Like, what's creepy about knowing how many blocks you've placed in a video game?

I would honestly love to have a statistic tracker for blocks and items and such on the website. It would just be interesting. I have been playing since mid 2011, so it would be quite fascinating to look at what I have done in 7 years.

So nobody really saw that time i was on someones world and the host kept stealing peoples stuff and killing them. Was just basically anarchy, so i thought killing his skeleton horse was fine. Killed him by accident, picked up a nether star without knowing and logged out. He asked me to come back, accused me of theft and had destroyed my base and made armour for himself with my diamonds in the meantime, so i logged on, gave him the star and explained. He still took all my stuff. My precious dirt! My 17 cobble! Oh but what was worse. He left behind my andesite, like it was worthless. How dare he insult andesite. So I waited for him to afk. Killed him with fire and burned his inventory. Never before have i witnessed so much rage typed onto signs. Also i killed a squid. That was my worst crime.

I was watching videos about an anime called Akira and when I launched Minecraft the "yellow message" in the menu screen said "KANEDA!!!!!" and then, after I actually played Minecraft, the message said "TETSUO!!!!!!!", and these are the names of the main characters of the anime. That only happened once, and it was a few days after I discovered the anime. Was it just a coincidence, or did the system know what I was watching? Well, I have no idea.

This is kind of off topic, but it's still about Minecraft, I've been playing the game for a little more than 6 years, and Minecraft is a one of a kind game, it's really the only game that is harder to play, the more knowledge you gain. I remember when I first got the game, I didn't care, I built with every block I had, and it was amazing, I wish I could do that again, but since I learned so much more about the game, I have to make my building look really good, which limits me a lot to creativity, Minecraft is one of the only games like it where you would want to play the earlier versions of the game, and for good reasons, every version has it's own thing, Beta 1.6 for the simple play-style, and the good, dark cobblestone, which I like, Beta 1.7 for Pistons and to experiment and create creations like the Infinite TNT Cannon, or early versions of Alpha to have a good laugh with the super speed time swapping glitch, every version is good. Minecraft is good, at any stage of the game.

Hey AntVenom I just found something out and I think you'd like it! So I was just messing around on my server and I made this arrow (using commands) that gives levitation for like 15 mins. Then found a horse in a little pond and I shot the arrow at it. It was levitating for a long time and then I got bored so I removed its effects, when the horse fell down it landed in the same pond, it looked normal, but when I tamed it and put I saddle on it, it started flying, I jumped off and the horse fell down. I tried a few more times and when ever I sit on it it starts levitating, when I jump off the horse fells down. It doesn't have any effects...So yeah that's it, and if you're wondering it was 1.12.2

I've been a minecraft veteran ever sense beta was a thing but looking back and replaying minecraft. Mojang is a very lazy when it came to its structures in the game and anything with coding. I mean look at the villages, temples and the strongholds, they extremely bland and have no real creativity put into them it just looks like something that was slapped together last minute. Just like the end city it just seems a little out of place. But I can make another comment about that in a minute. But the villagers also with the trading are not worth it at all I mean sure the bottle o' enchanting is a must get and the chain mail but thoughs the only things that makes them worth trading for. And what I mean there should be more unique item that villagers can trade you to make them worth trading for. Like special weapons and armors that you could only get from villagers and I'm not talking about a sword with a special enchantment I mean like it's own thing like a mace or a battle axe. Or some heavy armor or new shields. Also make melon seeds something you can only get from farmers and pumpkin seeds. But you get the what I mean with that. And for the village it's self they generate under the train sometimes and they are broken apart by the train it's self why not upgrade the building and what not to make it look more interesting to go into. Also just make it so they have there own flat land so they are not falling through holes in the middle of them and what not. And for the other structures they are just very lazy designs the desert temple could be so much more as well as the jungle temple and the ocean temple there is barely anything to get down there or in them. And the over all design of them are not very memorable. But the stronghold is the worst by far I mean the caves themselves are just breaking it apart. And inside structure are randomly generated and the room clip through one another. It's all just very sad to explore and go into. We desperately need an update to monument and structures and add a few on to give use more to explore and do. And have the temple unable to be mined like the ocean temple and each one has its own special effect to stop you from mining it.
It's not a good thing when it's a museum server storing your ip addresses for malicious use on the server it was based on. That's why a few awesome bases fell.

CCRLH85 (3 months ago)
As with any telemetry system, there should be an opt-out (at least) but, I think that many people had an issue with the fact that, post-GDPR, they said they were turning off the telemetry and then announced an initiative that could only work if it was still on. The later clarification that the telemetry deactivation was for Java edition and the donation initiative was only for Bedrock edition explained that but, it's problematic to be confusing when you're dealing with the privacy concerns of your customers.
Alison Forness (3 months ago)
I'm honesty okay with Mojang knowing this personal data on me. I find it quite curious to see the various stats of my game. Like seeing how I should learn to run from Creepers then fight them as I almost always get blown up by them and sometimes die. The GDPR was more created around the private data stored on our social media sites. The private data that Minecraft collects is in the long run not as bad as Facebook/Cambridge Analytical personal data issue. But I am glad to see that they took these steps to protect their players, especially the under 13 year olds. This data has shown them to improve their bug tracking issues from what I can tell from the past when it took forever for a bug to get fixed. You just have to look up old block copying cheats/bug and how long some took to get fixed to see how fast bugs are fixed today then back then.
JochCool (3 months ago)
I still wonder why everyone is so agitated about companies storing your data. Often companies _need_ your data, so they can see how they can improve their services _for you_. As long as this data isn't sold to insurances or used for manipulation, I don't see the problem.
??? ??? (3 months ago)
I don’t care if they are collecting what blocks I placed. Even if it wasn’t anonymous, is the fact that you built a dirt shack really going to tell them all your personal information?

oh no! they know how i play the game!... its not like they store any of my PERSONAL data even if they still tracked by statistics, why/how does that effect me in any way? who cares if people know how many blocks i'be placed or how long i've walked in minecraft? :/

I don’t care, if they do. I even think it’s beneficial, since that way they know what features most people would like them to develop further.

The "allow snooper" option should turn this stuff off. That's exactly what the option is there for, so why is other data not included in that option? Seems creepy.
Ishinyca (3 months ago)
Well, it doesn’t really matter in this case as long it is anonymous. It isn’t harming anyone for how many blocks we placed or the type of blocks we placed. It’s just ingame stuff. If it does go beyond that, like actually collect user data, then it would be different, and shouldn’t be collected.
