Want a cheap way of getting around the resolution limits of your monitor vs client? Get an HDMI dummy plug. You can actually trick your pc (GPU) into thinking it has 4k display for around 15 USD.

The mac version doesn't even deserve to be called Beta. advertises PS4 pad support, doesn't work at all. People have been complaining on steam forums about it for over a year now so i guess they will never fix it. As my ipad pro 12.9 has a bigger and better screen than my Macbook air I'm using Remotr now and its fantastic, just need to get a better router now.

run it Ethernet wired a room away and play a.c. origins it's unplayable lol

Okay so the way I under stand this is that the game has to be on both PCs at once and the primary (the pc you're playing on) will bounce the video to the client. is that right?
Can we move steam game from old pc to new pc ????
Eveolution (9 months ago)
I just want a box that can stream whats on my tv to my tv or tv's around the house. It be nice to stream media without having to have another pc, or alternative media sources like fire tv or something.
bob smith (9 months ago)
how is it impressive that a crappy processor can push frames out at x pixels at x FPS? If a modern processor isn't capable of simply playing a video, which is all that this streaming really is, then... you couldn't even open youtube to watch a video

Hi guys, I finally can connect my Samsung TV with my Steam account, but ... when i want to play some games the SteamLink App only let my use the keyboard, doesn't recognize my Xbox controller. I think I can not upload one image to show you, but I will try to explain it. In the big picture mode, in my PC and can play any game with my controller, but, when i use the SteamLink App in the icon of the game only appear a little keyboard icon, obviously the games can not played with the xbox controller :( Any solution please ??? Thanks you so much.

Last comment 3 years ago, when the video was made... Wifi seems fine to use today with Steam in home streaming, has the official LTT stance changed on that one? Wifi hasn't really changed that much in the past three years, not really anyway. Yet I can stream the gaming rig to a tablet, and play Mass Effect Andromeda in the 60 gallon soaking tub... No perceivable lag to ruin the day or anything. So, whats the LTT word?
Digital Insan1ty (1 year ago)
How is the performance nowadays? Is 4k streaming already possible? Isn't this very dependent of the quality of your router and network adapters? Is it possible to pass through non steam games?

The key here is the Bandwidth and Latency.. once we get past that .. games can run with a SUPER COMPUTER graphic capabilities at home. But not today.. the Bandwidth is not yet there even at 2016 but it WILL come.. Thin Client Gaming MAY BE the future of gaming. But it is FULLY dependent on Internet.. and not all games don't really need Internet.

Can you make a video on the Nvidia GameStream please?
Joe Gibbs (1 year ago)
A puny laptop core i3 with 8gb ram and intel hd4000 graphics streams gameplay like a dream from my host PC. GTAV, Skyrim, Dishonered, Elite Dangerous I play all of them with a 4 year old laptop.
Joe Gibbs (1 year ago)
Alex Atkin Yes I guess but running GTAV in ultra settings my laptop might struggle on it's own :)
Russell Morton (1 year ago)
my shitty windows tablet with a atom handles steam in home streaming perfectly' just add a usb wifi are you're set
Alex Atkin (1 year ago)
That's actually vastly overpowered for streaming. The video acceleration on the GPU does most of the work. An Atom can easily handle the streaming. The only time it really falls down is that WiFi on them can be a bit rubbish and a good network connection is by far the most important aspect for it to work.

I've seen people using this on tablet android, without Nvidia Shield. My PC doesn't see my tablet :\ any advice?

You could sell your Android tablet and get a cheap tablet that runs Windows. Or, you could get nVIDIA GeForce Experience, while having an nVIDIA graphics card, and stream through Moonlight.

so apperently its not working with a headless "server PC" wich sucks hard. why would I want to connect a monitor to the Server PC when I actually play it on a different PC. I was hoping to have a windows server PC, managed with RDP, and play games with steam inhome streaming.

Works great if you know how to use it and what to use it for.. I have two PC's both with the same steam account logged in, both have wireless internet and they are able to be connected through streaming PC 1: (COOLERMASTER HAF912) AMD FX 8350, 16GB RAM, 660GTX SLI, ASUS VG248QE 144HZ 1920x1080, ETC PC 2: (LENOVO LAPTOP) i5 2540M, 6GB RAM, INTEL HD 3000, 1366x768, ETC With steam streaming, I can use that very crappy laptop to play games that exceed the system requirements, for example: Witcher 3, TES V fully modded with ENBSERIES/RESHADE, and get the full performance I would get from my other PC through the laptop, as well as it being fully playable with no FPS loss at all

Felix Kunz (2 years ago)
will this work too with a Oculus or Htc Vive as a Display?
Roan Berg (2 years ago)
If you have the appropriate GPU and you're using the Steam Link (Not a steam machine or PC) then you can actually force the server to use resolutions that are not supported by its connected monitor. I don't know if this is a new thing or limited to the current beta client, but I've been doing it with my Nvidia card since I got the Steam Link. I can output 1080p from the Link while my server PC only have a 1680x1050 monitor.

I am currently using wireless 802.11n 2.4 Ghz and getting good performance with Steam In-Home Streaming.. host PC has 3 bars of signal to the web and home network, and getting 50-72 Mbps. I am also using a descent Belkin router. Yes , there are little hitches here and there but it is very playable for me. (It even works better when the game is not a fast paced shooter) host specs : AMD FX 8370 , GTX 960 2GB / Client Laptop: i3 2.1Ghz, Intel HD graphics 3000. Also, I dont think Linus mentioned that if you use the host PCc while streaming then it has a great chance of messing up the stream. The host PC needs to be idle.. and I found that prioritizing network traffic(if you can) will help. This option is in the settings.
okay, i have a query its a useful to know query as im planning on trying the streaming. my desktop build 6 core amd fx motherboard ga-970-ud3p v4.0 32GB of Gskill gaming memory windows 10, windows 7, ubuntu 14.04.3 (all 64-bit) 2TB hdd (just for my games) 1TB hdd for the os'es and a nzxt h440 i use a 1080p 5 series samsung hdtv (so its safe to assume 1080p) wireless n is what i use at the moment for connecting online. oh and the gpu, an xfx r9 380 OC 4GB edition (and i thought my old 270 was powerful haha) the system i was planning on using to receive stream, asus g72gx it has 6 GB memory (standard ram not gaming) it has windows 7 and it does a res of 1600x900 the graphics in this is a gtx 260m 1GB also use wifi here to get online my reason for mentioning this is, i plan on using my headset for listening to the game and also use teamspeak 3 (i have a custom ubuntu 15.04 x64 dell desktop i use just for teamspeak server, im quite proud of that haha) my actual query, is can i hear the game and the teamspeak via the laptop at the same time as i plan to game downstairs in the living room, so my partener can get more sleep when doing gaming, and thought this is a possible theory. could this work? i did concider using thier stream box, but my headset does not become compatible without doing something drastic. i.e. the headset used usb to get power, but uses jacks to plug in mic and audio seperate, as steams stream box does not do audio jacks id be pretty stuffed, as i couldnt use it to game this way. i did come up with the idea of using a cell/mobile phone usb charger, which powers up the headset and jacks work well (was diagnosing audio crackling and was seeing if usb was allowing the dreaded system noise thru anything electrical via audio) my games i wanted to play? (team fortress classic & 2, and warframe mainly) do you think that it is possible to do it well? thanks
Robert Phoenix (2 years ago)
+Planet Supermorph YOu will have to run the teamspeak client on the Client machine as only the game audio is streamed from the server PC. Also you will be limited to playing at 1600x900 resolution. For the rest the client PC is more then powerfull enough to decode the stream from the server. Currently there is however a Bug in the steam streaming system whihc causes annoying screen blackouts every 10-15 seconds. As a workaround you can turnoff hardware decoding in the Advanced CLient options. This will increase the workload of the processor on the client machine. Most CPU's from the last 6 years however are more then powerfull enough to decode the H.264 signal in software.

Do you think I could use wireless to stream from my fx8320 960 ssc pc to a laptop with an I7 that I plugged into a tv via hdmi. Will the latency be too much for just some casual local games just to play with some friends?
Aaron R (2 years ago)

Phenolphthalein (2 years ago)
+JoyousUnicornGaming It would all depend on how good of a signal you have. If your wireless is crap near your tv, then you'll have really bad latency. In that case then it would possibly be worthwhile to get a powerline kit and use that instead of your wifi.
Kosta The Ghosta (2 years ago)
Would it be more viable just to unplug my rig and carry it down 2 stories and plug it in. It's less practical but will work better so... what should I do? Also I maybe can plug anything near the TV into ethernet so there is that too.
Ace Unica (2 years ago)
what modem router do you use for this game streaming can you suggest me a good modem/router for game streaming....
FellTheSky (2 years ago)
ive tested this this week and it works perfectly. And the best thing is you can stream your entire pc if you want to, for example to play games that wont allow steam launch (like hearthstone). Just choose the notepad.exe as a game, then you minimize the notepad, and there is your desktop. The only thing is that if you dont have wire, buy the best router you can, it helps a lot
Robert Funfstuck (2 years ago)
I found a workaround for the limitation of screen resolution depending on the connected monitor to the server PC. Unplug your monitor. That's it. Games will give you all the display options past that. I used VNC to connect to verify the resolutions on the main computer without having a monitor limiting it and it was correct.
FlowUrbanFlow (1 year ago)
Robert Funfstuck That's one of those fixes that's so easy you'd expect it not to work. Haha, nice job man.
