Qf6 Aron Nimzowitsch, (born November 7, 1886, Riga, Latvia, Russian Empire—died March 16, 1935, Denmark), Latvian-born chess master and theoretician who was renowned for his book My System (1925) but failed to win a world championship, despite many attempts. Nimzowitsch learned to play chess from his father, a wholesale merchant, when he was eight years old, but only after he entered the University of Berlin in 1904 did he concentrate on the game. My System, which advocates what came to be called the Hypermodern school of chess, remains a classic. Nimzowitsch is best remembered for having created a new vocabulary for chess that made the strategy of the masters more intelligible. He also developed several theories of play, including the Nimzowitsch-Indian defense. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you realllly enjoy my content, you're welcome to support me and my channel with a small donation via PayPal or Bitcoin. You could have gone to the party as "hoodie guy."
Yotam Cohen (1 year ago)
LOL, I wonder tho, if you can also make a white hoodie for unknown people playing as white pieces wouldnt it make more sense? thanks! I really enjoy your vids XD got me back into liking chess!
I would, but no one would get it :D

By playing Bxf3 and then cxd4 , he probably thought that d5 as a knight outpost would be decent compensation !

That moustache though 😂😂😂

If only Nielsen filed a patent on nbd7 in the Caro-Kann , he’d have his own variation instead of Karpov XD

"Nimzowitsch plays e4. This is already exciting."
Avi Schraer (6 months ago)
Could nimsovic have played bishop to g7 instead of queen to f6 no still have a forced mate?
Taylan Eyyüp Ceylan (7 months ago)
woaw you have a lot of upgrades, firstly, nice mustasch style, and you said that being out of the way instead of that being said :))

Bxg7 is pretty solid too seems. I only mention it because over the board with clock ticking, I’d be a helluva lot more likely to find it than Qf6!
SvanfortS (8 months ago)
at 6:55 I was thinking about playing Qg3. Threatning checkmate and also attacking the rook twice. I think this would win a piece but Nimzo found a more brilliant move.
Good game but i have two suggestions 1 is that if black plays f6 why rook capture on e6 and another is that at 5.43 rook to g4 would have created a nice windmill to watch
Joey Bishop (10 months ago)
Would never have thought of Qf6. Nice move.

Ritvik Pandey (11 months ago)
I believe i have found another winning variation. After black rook captures on d6, white's dark square bishop captures pawn on g7. If the threat is ignored, Nimzowitsch easily wins. If the sacrifice is taken, rook to g4 check. If king moves to h8, queen to f6 checkmate. If king moves to h6, queen to f6. Only move is king to h5, and queen to h4 checkmate. Thank you!
Ryan White (11 months ago)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but could he have also taken the pawn on g7 with his bishop instead of moving his queen to f6. I may be missing something, but I believe this move always leads to either check mate or a favorable situation where white has his queen left and black only has a rook.

amazing! I still have the hebrew version of "My System" written by mr. Nimotzowitsch it was the book that accompanied me during the years of being in a chess club as a teen. I still casually play to this day, but I am not that good :) I kinda miss the chess club in my hometown.... I know there's a place where you can play chess online buttt I missed the whole social part of chess as well as the "real" pieces and the idea of sitting behind the table... everythings digital now I guess

ReaM (1 year ago)
Hey Agadmator, sending you wishes as a fan from South Africa. Good analysis, sometimes with enough insight into the game that makes me think "how did he see this in the position?" Keep up the good work, and show us more chess magic. Have you checked out any of the games of van Geet? I was on chessgames and I would give a #suggestion to two games, one was a very interesting miniature with a delightful mating pattern: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1369680 but I feel it's a bit too short to make a whole video about it, and the second was, well, have a look and judge for yourself: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1100634

I've got a question for chess exercises: let's assume that at the beginning of the exercise a white pawnis at a4, and a black pawn is at b4. It's black's move. (Don't forget that it's the 1st move of the exercise). If there is no indication whether or not the last move of white was a's pawn move from a2 to a4 is black allowed to make en passant?
quinnsteimlosk (11 months ago)
Marcus Rost If it is unknown if a4 was the last move, I would assume the en passant opportunity is passed and cannot be taken.
Marcus Rost (11 months ago)
quinnsteimlosk but assuming that it's in an exercise and you don't know the last move...?
quinnsteimlosk (11 months ago)
The only time en passant is valid is the immediate next move after the pawn moves 2 squares bypassing. If en passant is not taken immediately after, the opportunity is lost. In your scenario, the only way for black to take with en passant is to know that white's last move was a4
tGutta Da Great (1 year ago)
You look like an 1930 chess player I would be scared to play you with your mastache🤣. Don't take it wrong I'm fan of your channel
Adam (1 year ago)
So I paused and found the move Rg4, sacrificing the queen for Rxg7+, and when Kh8, Rg8#. Was I more stylish than nimzowich or does my move lose?
Adam (1 year ago)
Even if he doesn't take the queen and goes for the bishop, pawn takes back with easy mate to follow w/ queen and rook
karthik prabhu (1 year ago)
So it was called the "Karpov variation" 21 years before Karpov was born? That must have confused quite a few chess players

Might be a very noob question but what about queen to F3? If he goes for rook capture with queen then its check mate in 1 right? But of course queen to f6 was the much better move.
sdrtcacgnrjrc (1 year ago)
I like to think that looks aren't important, but, from where I'm looking that moustache is somewhere between a big mistake and very challenging.
