LGA 775 Tape Mod (BSEL) - Does it work on low end computers?

75 ratings | 8636 views
Hello. In this video we set out on a mission to figure out whether it was possible to overclock the CPU on cheap LGA 775 motherboards (such as the one in the Dell Inspiron 560). Without spoiling the whole video, let's just say we had some disappointing results with out Core 2 Duo E7500 processor.... Massive props to Aatash for the *amazing* voiceover... » Links ‣ Previous Video: https://goo.gl/a2di7f ‣  My Graphics Shop: https://sellfy.com/techtoolbox ‣  Video Gear: https://goo.gl/4QjBDz Disclaimer: Any/all songs used in this video are/may be protected by copyright. Will this work on the q8300 chip?
Valentin Ivaniv (1 month ago)
bsel mode works for i went from 2.8 to 3.5 Ghz with e7400
This mod is much more commonly used on low-speed 1066FSB chips. This usually works best on the E6300 through E6600, and the Q6600. Other chips wind up clocked too high!

I did this mod on a Q6600 a bit later and it ended up working just fine. Thanks for the info!

There are also pad mods for adjusting voltage. If your CPUs internal voltage ID is between 1.2250 and 1.3125 (which it very likely is if it's a desktop CPU, just check cpuz), you can short VID4 to VSS (low, zero) to get a 0.1 volt increase. https://logout.hu/dl/upc/2017-11/18754_vid.jpg http://www.rayer.g6.cz/hardware/core2/core2.gif

SUPER GHAY. I expected OHSOMUCHBETTER!

Looks like even spellcheck couldn't fix that one..
I did it with a Pentium Dual Core E5200 and I did somwthing wrong and the clock speed was 12.69GHz :D The CPU was heating up so fast :D

Can you overclock Amd athlon 64 2x +4000?
Josh Syl (5 months ago)
could it possibly work with the Older Core2Duo E4600 (E4000's Series).
Lekim Nines (1 month ago)
Josh Syl Yes, but it's a different mod. See http://www.overclockers.com/intel-lga775-pad-modding/

When you did the gaming tests, did you even put a graphics card in the old pc?
Ren Clon (3 months ago)
λucas that's logical my man, you are completely right, it is pointless to oc a cpu expecting good results in games performance with an old and weak integrated gpu, and he had to cover just the first pin not the second one(the third from left to right)
λucas (6 months ago)
techtoolbox well overclocking the cpu will only make a real difference if you're using a dedicated gpu.
techtoolbox (6 months ago)
Not in this video since the computer didn't originally come with a GPU.

Will this work for my Q8300? I have an Optiplex 755 MT.
Lekim Nines (1 month ago)
LordHezi No, it won't. This mod jumps the frontside bus speed from 266 to 333 (aka 1066 to 1333 since 775 CPUs have quad pumped frontside). Your Q8300 is already at 1333.

With an 11x multiplier, the target of 3.66GHz is just too high, now without an overclocking BIOS, it might be worth revisiting with the power profile adjusted to lower the maximum, which might limit the multiplier - 90% or maybe 91% ought to hold it to 10x and 3.33GHz
Lekim Nines (1 month ago)
Yes. I've done 2 Q6600s this way. 3.0 appears to be no sweat for these chips.
techtoolbox (7 months ago)
I managed to do it with a Q6600 and it worked out just fine!

Wonder how this would work with my core2duo build. That thing's been my main gaming rig for at least 6 months.
Ren Clon (3 months ago)
you need to have a 1066 Mhz fsb cpu in order to make this mod
Matthew Day (9 months ago)
Core2Duos are pretty cheap these days, if you can actually find one... know someone on facebook considering turning them into art (though their best one out of a bundle looked like an E4700). The Q6600 quad is the sweet spot for BSEL mod, as it seems most likely to take the resulting 3GHz without complaint - the other alternative being LGA771-775 sticker mod which needs the socket de-blocking or the CPU notching to fit

get a gtx 1050 mini its better and no bottleneck!
techtoolbox (11 months ago)
I recently upgraded my Inspiron with a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 and a GTX 760. It's honestly a great gaming machine now.
tosdude (1 year ago)
2.1 Ghz core2duo, 4Gb DDR2, 500 Gb hard drive (win 7 home basic). GT430 nvidia graphics card. Also has some wintv knockoff tuner card for Xbox capture.

do it with a q6600
techtoolbox (7 months ago)
So I tested this in my newest video and it turns out the Q6600 works just fine in the same PC. I guess the Core 2 Duo chip just doesn't like being overclocked.
Pan (11 months ago)
agreee. so far i done some research mostly q6600 will work out. since you have motherboard support fsb 1333mhz
