How are we looking and listening for intelligent life? Don’t miss our next video! SUBSCRIBE! ►► http://bit.ly/iotbs_sub ↓↓↓ More info and sources below ↓↓↓ Now that we know planets are common in our galaxy, how would we tell if one holds life? Sure, it will take incredibly powerful telescopes and ambitious new space missions, but what are we looking for? What are we listening for? How do we help other worlds know that we are here? Here's the thing: Life on Earth has an expiration date. No matter what humans do, our aging sun will eventually be so hot that we can't survive. If we want to live on, it will have to be beyond Earth. The only question is, will it be US who live on, or just our radio broadcasts and dead satellites? BEST Proof We Have For Life on Other Planets

Ever since we first begun to imagine that life could exist on worlds Bonus Video @Patreon http://www.patreon.com/strangemysteries Narration provided by JaM Advertising New Mexico www.tasteofjam.com other than our own, the Red Planet has been mankind's number one suspect. And in recent years we've also come to believe that life may also exist somewhere on the moons of Saturn and Jupiter too. So what evidence for this have we actually discovered? In 2013 the Curiosity rover detected many of the key chemical ingredients for life in the Martian soil.In 2014 the British microbiologist Professor Milton Wainwright claimed to have discovered evidence of life in Earth's stratosphere, and he says this organism could not have come from our planet.Take a look at this neat little guy. This is a methane ice worm discovered in Mexico back in 1997. As its name suggests, this organism lives inside methane ice which has been pushed up from the sea floor.

10 STRONGEST Signs of Aliens and Alien Life

13:50
Are we alone? It’s a question that many hope to have answered, and some believe they already have the answer to. Some scientists maintain that we will find alien life in the next thirty years, if not sooner. Subscribe for more! ► http://bit.ly/BeAmazedSubscribe ◄ Stay updated ► http://bit.ly/BeAmazedFacebook https://twitter.com/BeAmazedVideos ◄ Get in touch or join the team: http://goo.gl/forms/2lOZyOeL3N SPOILER ALERT!!! A condensed list is below: ➢ 10. Tiny Life on Meteorites Earth has been hit by a number of meteoritesover the past four billion years. Of the many tons of cosmic dust and meteorites that hit the Earth on a daily basis, three have been determined to have possibly come in contact with life. Credit: http://fur.ly/0/tinylifeonmeteorites ➢ 9. The Wow Signal In 1977 Ohio State University picked up a strange signal from their Big Ear Telescope an observatory that scanned the sky for alien radio signals. On August 15, , The telescope picked up a radio signal that measured as ‘6EQUJ5’ from an area of empty space and astronomer, Dr. Jerry R. Ehman wrote the simple phrase,‘Wow’. Credit: http://fur.ly/0/thewowsignal ➢ 8. The black knight The black knight is a mysterious, unidentified satellite that was detected way back in 1899 by the brilliant Serbian inventor, Nikola Tesla, who some think intercepted signals from the unknown satellite. The satellite is believed to be 13000 years old and numerous others have since claimed to have picked up similar signals relating to its existence. Credit: http://fur.ly/0/theblackknight ➢ 7. Nasa Cover-ups If anybody in the world currently knows whether alien life exists, it would most likely be US government agencies such as NASA. What's unnerving is that there ARE many strange signs to suggest that NASA has been concealing information from the public. Credit: http://fur.ly/0/nasacoverups https://www.flickr.com/photos/gsfc/6816499986 ➢ 6. Ancient evidence Peculiar ancient hieroglyphs may be proof that even generations before us knew that alien life exists. Some famous hieroglyphics bears symbols resembling modern day vehicles, suggesting alien life was known about during ancient times. Credit: http://fur.ly/0/ancientevidense ➢ 5. Strange radio bursts Since 2001 telescopes around the world have been picking up so-called fast radio bursts that lasts just a few milliseconds and erupt with about as much energy as the sun releases in a month. Ten have been detected so far and were determined to have originated 5.5 billion light years away. Credit: http://fur.ly/0/strangeradiobursts ➢ 4. Life on Mars For more than a century, people have speculated about whether there is life on the red planet that is Mars. Thanks to NASAs curiosity rover that landed on the planet in 2012, it's likely that soon we may know whether life was or is present on the planet. Credit: http://fur.ly/0/lifeonmars ➢ 3.Life Can Exist Anywhere, Even Deep-Space Extremophiles are creatures that exist in conditions that would kill most other kinds of life. Since the building blocks of life can form anywhere, life beyond our own rock is possible and likely. Credit: http://fur.ly/0/lifeexistsanywhere ➢ 2. There are Thousands of Exoplanets In 2009 NASA launched the Kepler satellite observatory to look out into the farthest reaches of space. As Kepler scans the void, it has discovered and is still discovering, a staggering amount of exoplanets that may be habitable. In other words, our galaxy alone is full of planets within the important habitable zone, where alien life is likely to thrive. Credit: http://fur.ly/0/thousandsofexoplanets ➢ 1. Life could be in Our Backyard For life, as we know it, to survive we requires liquid water and heat. The prospect for finding liquid water within our solar system outside of earth may not be as unlikely as we first thought. Apparently there are entire oceans of liquid water beneath the crust of ice on Jupiter’s moons Europa, Ganymede and Saturn’s moon, Enceladus. 5 "Impossible" Things That Can Happen On Other Planets

07:24
A lot of things happen on Earth, but there are still some things that just don't ever happen here. But, that doesn't mean that what's impossible here is impossible everywhere else in the universe. Whether it's clouds that rain rocks or glass, wind that's 29 times faster than sound, having 2 shadows or even being able to fly in some places, this is a collection of some of the most ridiculous places that we know of so far in our strange universe. This video was done in a collaboration with Second Thought, and you can check out his video here! If you're curious about flying on Titan and the research into that, I've attached a paper written by the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester dated October 22nd 2013 which goes into a lot more detail than I could afford. What Does the Sky Look Like on other Planets and Moons?

05:17
All all know what the sky looks like on Earth, but what would it look like on Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Neptune? This video was made for a module I'm doing in uni, which explains why it has a slightly different format to what you're used to. The project had to be called "In the End" (my interpretation being the end of the solar system, as that's where the video ends up). It could only be 5 minutes and it had to follow a narrative. How do you think it went? Want me to do more like this in the future? Honest feedback is greatly appreciated! Also, I'm toying with the idea of doing an extended version of this video, one that would fit this channel a bit more I feel. Let me know what you guys want. Thanks to M. M A H A J A N for the idea for this video! And lastly, I just wanted to say sorry to those of you who have been waiting for a new video. A lot of been going on, it took about 3 months to actually move house, then I didn't have internet for a while, and I started uni. There's a lot more stories but I won't bore you with them ;) But basically I wanted to say I should be back in business as usual. Especially the month of January, I'm on hols so I will take full advantage to make more videos! I've got a lot lined up say stay tuned ;) SUBSCRIBE for more videos about our other planets. 5 Earthlike Worlds and What It's Like to Live on Them

In June 2017 NASA announced the discovery of 10 new Earth-like Bonus Videos & "Chemicals of Reality" Premium Video Available @ http://www.patreon.com/strangemysteries NEW SISTER CHANNEL "Beyond:" https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdFur5pgxJtvnmdvHeExeaA Narrated by Jack Daniel www.jackdanielvo.com Ending trailer by Ben Patrick Johnson planets. In August they added four more to this list. At present, we know of thousands of exoplanets outside of our solar system, and a startling number of these seem to be extremely similar in composition to our own planet Earth. When the discovery of Kepler 452-b was announced in July 2015 its incredible similarity to our planet led to it being dubbed "Earth's cousin". Kepler 438-b lies 470 light years away in the constellation Lyra, and in a total diss to our own solar system it has been described as a cooler version of Venus. Our previous entry, Kepler 438-b, had a score of 0.88 on the Earth Similarity Index. Gliese 581g has a score of 0.89, making it more Earth-like than any other planet we've ever found. Proxima Centauri b is the closest earth-like exoplanet known to mankind, as it orbits within the habitable zone of the red dwarf Proxima Centauri in a triple star system just 4.2 light years away. When Kepler 62-f was discovered in 2013 it was considered of such importance that the US House of Representatives convened to formally discuss further exploration of exoplanets.

What are the odds there is life in outer space - Richard Dawkins asks Neil Degrasse tyson

43:58
Richard Dawkins asks Neil deGrasse about what are his thoughts on the probability of life existing elsewhere in the universe. Neil is very positive about having life as the basic ingredients for having life are in abundance in the universe, as we are mostly made up of carbon. Are we Alone? - Finding Life Beyond Earth [Full Documentary] - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SiMszaiUVFY Brief Background - Ever since humans acknowledged the enormity of the universe, we have intuited that life must exist somewhere, either in our galaxy or some galaxy far, far away. If the universe contains billions of galaxies, and if each galaxy contains billions of stars, and if a fraction of those stars have Earth-like planets, then hundreds -- maybe even thousands -- of alien civilizations must exist across the cosmos. Right? For a while, science contented itself with the logic alone. Then, in 1995, astronomers located the first planets outside our solar system. Since then, they've detected nearly 300 of these extra-solar planets. Although most are large, hot planets similar to Jupiter (which is why they're easier to find), smaller, Earth-like planets are beginning to reveal themselves. In June 2008, European astronomers found three planets, all a little larger than Earth, orbiting a star 42 light-years away. What would life on other planets be like? Discovery Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto

42:19
Uranus is a toxic combination of hydrogen, helium and methane. Scientists speculate that the planet was knocked on its side after colliding with another body. Neptune's largest moon, Triton, is cold and barren, but some scientists speculate that liquid water might exist under Triton's icy surface. If this is proven true, Triton could be the home to one of the biggest discoveries of all time. Cold and inhospitable, Pluto completes one orbit around the solar system every 248 years

Secret Cities On Planet Mars Censored By NASA

Planet Mars was having large cities with buildings, roads and cars. The entire city areas on the map are blurred out by NASA, but this video shows what is actually behind the blurred area. Before drawing any conclusion please take in consideration that the original images from ESA have been heavily edited and retouched before they were published. Fact is that these structures are not the result of image compression algorithms. 5 Mysterious Things In Mars Caught On Camera By Nasa!

04:10
5 Mysterious Creatures In Mars Caught On Tape By Nasa! Description: If you thought planet Earth was the only place where life existed, then you are quite mistaken. There’s life on Mars, though at a microbial level. Admittedly, there has been a lot of back and forth from NASA and some alien hunters on the truth of this. As the debate rages on, at Top 5’s finest, we show you 5 Mysterious Things In Mars Caught On Camera By Nasa! Lets begin! 1. Star Destroyer From Star Wars Conspiracy theorists really shocked earthlings on this one in 2015 when they ‘saw’ the Star Destroyer from Star Wars on Mars. Though NASA is usually silent on such matters in a way that adds speculation to the theory that they are covering up proof of an alien civilization, this one they had to respond. One of their scientists working on the Mars Curiosity Project, dispelled this when he stated that mars could support life, but only at a microbial level. I know...It’s a bummer for all those planning to move there. Scientists attribute this seeing of objects on Mars to a mind trick they call Pareidolia. Tell that to the alien hunters if you dare! 2. Barack Obama’s Face This one is quite funny…but must be included: Barack Obama’s head….Really? In 2005, UFO experts zoomed on a rock that appeared, in a strange way, to look like Obama’s head. The image was caught by NASA’S Spirit Rover which had been stuck on Mars, without signal, since 2009 and started being active in 2010. The rock from which the image was taken is believed to be part of a statue. Scott Waring of the UFO sightings blog says that it is a full statue, buried from the shoulders. Some cheeky alien hunter must have digitally altered the image and cleaned it up using a computer program and claimed to have found Obama’s face! Very naughty indeed. 3. The Classic “Face on Mars” If you don’t know it yet, the Face on Mars shocked the world in 1976. Its fame is evident by the television, movies and books that have been written about it. Unlike most photos taken from space and used by alien conspiracies, this one was not quickly dismissed. It was thought, by at least at the time, that the face on Mars could be a potential alien relic. NASA was quite quick to refute the assumptions stating that the illusion was created by shadows and a light. The public could hear none of it but held to the fact that it was an alien civilization. In 1998, more details were taken on the Face of Mars and it was confirmed to be just an optical illusion. 4. An Alien Skull (Perhaps Bigfoot) In the alien hunter’s world, this is called an alien skull. It is no ordinary alien skull but is one that looks like Bigfoot. All the speculation arose from the YouTube channel Paranormal Crucible where they wrote, “Strange artifact found by the rover, appears to resemble a large skull, obviously alien in nature…”The speculation is that it could be Bigfoot or a bizarre Martian creature. Who knows? Maybe we will find out in 20 years later from now. 5. “Marshenge” You must have guessed the source of this name by now! Does the Stonehenge from Wiltshire, England ring a bell? At this point, It must have crossed your mind that the Stonehenge from Britain was first built by aliens who were first living on Earth! Too late! The alien hunters had already proposed that. The experts don’t agree. Science shows that natural processes can cause rocks to form in circles. The author of UFO Investigations Manual agrees. He said that it was quite a huge leap of imagination to compare “Marshenge” with the likes of Stonehenge. With the mystery that lies in Mars, there’s really no way of knowing what these really are. They could even be random stones cast by marsquakes- you know, the equivalent of earthquakes. Why We Cant Find Extraterrestrial Life - The Fermi Paradox

09:11
One of the biggest paradoxes is that despite there being billions of other stars with earth like planets out there and according to the Drake equation, there should be 100's or 1000's of advanced civilisations. But so far we have found nothing to prove that intelligent life exists anywhere else other than here on Earth. Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/curiousdroid Paypal.me : https://www.paypal.me/curiousdroid You can now translate this and other curious droid videos, see my video about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLPVgIytKyg Earth Isn’t As special As We like to Think We humans do tend to hold ourselves in high regard when it come to the rest of the Cosmos. For thousands of years we believed that we and earth, were at the center of the universe and everything revolved around us including the sun and the stars. We now know that our sun is just one of billions of very similar stars and earth is a planet that is not that special. We often think that aliens would want to come to our home planet for our resources, the water, minerals, possibly the life that exists here and maybe to communicate with us humans. But if an alien race is capable of travelling and communicating across light years of space and would be 1000’s or millions of years ahead of us in their development. They’ve Moved Out Of The Universe One reason why we have not seen an evidence of advanced civilizations is that they have evolved out of this universe to another or into another dimension. According to futurist John Smart’s Transcension Hypothesis, intelligent alien life once existed in our universe, yet it became so advanced that it moved on the sub atomic scale or inner space rather than outer space. Alien Earth | Life Beyond Earth - Full Documentary HD #Advexon

45:49
Alien Earth | Life Beyond Earth One of eight new planets spied in distant solar systems has usurped the title of "most Earth-like alien world", astronomers have said. All eight were picked out by Nasa's Kepler space telescope, taking its tally of such "exoplanets" past 1,000. But only three sit safely within the "habitable zone" of their host star - and one in particular is rocky, like Earth, as well as only slightly warmer. The find was revealed at a meeting of the American Astronomical Society. Red sky The three potentially habitable planets join Kepler's "hall of fame", which now boasts eight fascinating planetary prospects. And researchers say the most Earth-like of the new arrivals, known as Kepler 438b, is probably even more similar to our home than Kepler 186f - which previously looked to be our most likely twin. At 12% larger than Earth, the new claimant is bigger than 186f but it is closer to our temperature, probably receiving just 40% more heat from its sun than we do from ours. So if we could stand on the surface of 438b it may well be warmer than here, according to Dr Doug Caldwell from the Seti (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) Institute in California. "And it's around a cooler [red dwarf] star... so your sky would look redder than ours does to us," Dr Caldwell said. That first-person encounter, however, is unlikely - both because the planet is 475 light-years away and because we still have essentially no idea what it's made of. Images from the Kepler telescope, which trails behind the Earth and peers far into the distance as we orbit our own sun, are used to identify far-off planets by observing "transits". This refers to the dimming of a star's light when a planet passes in front of it. A large team of researchers then uses additional data from Earth-bound telescopes to further explore these unfamiliar solar systems. They try to calculate how big the planets are, and how closely they orbit their host stars. Not everything that causes such a dimming eventually turns out to be a planet, however. At the same time as the eight confirmed new exoplanets were announced by a 26-strong team spanning Nasa and multiple US institutions, the Kepler mission's own scientists released another tranche of more than 500 "candidate" planets. "With further observation, some of these candidates may turn out not to be planets," said Kepler science officer, Fergal Mullally. "Or as we understand their properties better, they may move around in, or even outside, the habitable zone." 'Star Trek' scenario Even once scientists have anointed a candidate as a confirmed exoplanet, the question of whether or not it is "Earth-like" is a fraught one, with fuzzy boundaries. The size of the habitable, or "Goldilocks" zone, where a planet is far enough from its sun to hold water but not so distant that it freezes, depends on how confident scientists want to be with their guess-work. According to Dr Cardwell, just three of the eight new exoplanets can be confidently placed in that zone - and only two of those are probably rocky like the Earth. More detailed description is very difficult. "From the Kepler measurements and the other measurements we made, we don't know if these planets have oceans with fish and continents with trees," Dr Caldwell told BBC News. "All we know is their size and the energy they're receiving from their star. "So we can say: Well, they're of a size that they're likely to be rocky, and the energy they're getting is comparable to what the Earth is getting. "As we fill in these gaps in our solar system that we don't have, we learn more about what it means to be Earth-like, in some sense." Speaking at a related event at the conference, Prof Debra Fischer from Yale University said she remembered a time before the first exoplanet was discovered, more than two decades ago. "I remember astronomers before that point being very worried," she said. "We really had to step back and say: Maybe the Star Trek picture is wrong. That filled me with despair." Prof Fischer said that sensitive telescopes like Kepler had ushered in an era of "amazing and impressive work". "We're talking about a planet - and we can only see its star with a powerful telescope. "And we can draw graphs and sketch its composition and have serious scientific discussions. This is incredible." 5 Aliens Life Forms on Moon and Mars Caught By NASA

5 Aliens Life Forms on Moon and Mars Caught By NASA 5. Alien structures found on Moon Ufologists have found traces extraterrestrial civilizations on the Moon. New satellite images, allegedly taken by an orbital probe that has been orbiting the Earth's natural satellite for seven years, showed strange objects on the surface of the Moon. "UFO catchers" studied the photos and found strange-looking "formations" on the Moon. Ufologists believe that the images captured the wreckage of an alien ship that crashed on the Moon. The researchers could also see a chain of footprints that lead to the mysterious object. Source : http://www.express.co.uk/news/weird/778649/Structures-on-the-Moon-Secureteam10-NASA-s-Lunar-Reconnaissance-Orbiter 4. Alien Image found in the image of Nasa These images, were taken from the NASA Curiosity Rover droid which is scouring the surface for signs of life - but appeared to have missed it, if the alien chasers are to be believed. In this image a head, torso and legs can clearly be distinguished." Everything is there in the original image, whatever it is it looks humanoid, reminds me of the Atacama Alien, about the same size too, this one is around 6 inches." Source : http://www.express.co.uk/news/weird/785897/Alien-NASA-image-Mars-Curiosity-Rover 3. Aliens may have sent a strong signal from sun like star Astronomers engaged in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) are training their instruments on a star around 94 light years from Earth after a very strong signal was detected by a Russian telescope. An international team of researchers is now examining the radio signal and its star, HD 164595 -- described in a paper by Italian astronomer Claudio Maccone and others as a "strong candidate for SETI" -- in the hopes of determining its origin. "The signal from HD 164595 is intriguing, because it comes from the vicinity of a sun-like star, and if it's artificial, its strength is great enough that it was clearly made by a civilization with capabilities beyond those of humankind," astronomer Douglas Vakoch, president of METI International, which searches for life beyond Earth, tells CNN. Whenever a strong signal is detected, "it's a good possibility for some nearby civilization to be detected," Maccone tells CNN. Source : http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/30/health/seti-signal-hd-164595-alien-civilization/ 2. Alien skeleton found on mars A new image beamed back by the Curiosity rover is ultimate proof that the red planet had life in the distant past. new images show what appear to be fossilized remains of an Alien” creature on Mars. Looking at the image I have to say they look a bit strange, but, does strange mean Alien? Well… lets not jump to conclusions. "The relic has a large skull adorned with an ornate or decorative head piece, this could indicate that its the remains of a king, religious icon or perhaps a fallen warrior," Source : http://www.express.co.uk/news/weird/761727/Mars-giant-skeleton 1. Alien Antenna found on Moon surface Mark Sawalha, a UFO hunter based in Finland, spotted a 'strange spike' in a Nasa photo of the lunar surface. He claims is an alien antenna that could be located on the roof of an alien base. 'Aliens are using moon minerals and they have bases there too. Many other findings support this theory,' Mr Sawalha he told the Sun. While he does not spell out what these findings are, the UFO spotter claims that Nasa knows about them and has chosen not to publish them. He also speculates that the presence of aliens on the lunar surface may be the reason that Nasa hasn't sent any manned spacecraft to Earth's satellite since the Apollo missions. The images, captured by the space agency's Lunar Orbiter, appear to show a small dark 'spike' that casts a shadow. Along with a mysterious antenna-like spike, zooming in on the photo also appears to reveal a 'clear plateau' under the antenna. Will Alien Life Resemble Life on Earth? Harvard Biologist Jonathan Losos Explains

09:20
Is there life on other planets? Harvard biologist Jonathan B. Losos has an interesting theory that since there are so many Earth-type planets in our galaxy alone that there's a good chance that there's some humanoid looking (at least in the bipedal sense) creatures out there, too. Just like a Hollywood movie. Read more at BigThink.com: http://bigthink.com/videos/jonathan-losos-what-might-life-on-other-planets-look-like-a-harvard-biologist-explains Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Jonathan B. Losos: So this question about the inevitability of evolution, the extent to which the outcomes we see in the world today were destined to occur, has a number of implications. I mean just most generally it tells us whether how fated evolution was to occur, how the outcome today was destined in a way. But it has other implications as well that people have long speculated about, and that is: what would life be like on other planets if it is evolved? Would it be like the world today here on Earth or would it be completely different? And this question has taken on some increased urgency or at least interest in recent years because we now realize that there are many planets out there that are like Earth. We used to think that Earth was perhaps unique and so perhaps life as we know it is unique, because we’re the only place that it could evolve. But quite the contrary we’ve now discovered that there are lots of what are called “habitable exoplanets”, Some people estimate millions, even billions just in our own Milky Way galaxy. So if that’s the case, if there are that many Earth-like planets – and by Earth-like I mean about the same size, temperature, atmosphere somewhat similar, running water – roughly similar conditions. If there are really that many Earth-like planets many people think that it’s very likely that life has evolved on them. And so the question is what will that life look like? Well there are those who argue that from the argument of convergent evolution they argue that species facing the same conditions here on Earth evolved the same solutions by natural selection. They extrapolate to say if conditions on other planets are similar to here then we would see very similar lifeforms, that you arrive on whatever planet you’ll see animal and plant-like organisms that look very familiar. Some people have gone so far as to say that, in fact, human type organisms, humanoids will occur on other planets. So there will be intelligent beings that if we saw them they would be recognizable which, of course, is what Hollywood tells us. If you watch almost any science fiction TV show or movie the intelligent lifeform is bipedal, a couple of arms, a mouth. Maybe they only have three fingers and pointy ears and they’re green, but they’re pretty humanoid. And so some people say yes, that’s actually very likely that humans are a very successful lifeform here on Earth that we are extremely well adapted to our environment which ancestrally was occurring on the plains of Africa. But we have adapted so exquisitely that we now dominate the world. And so if this is such a good adaptation here on Earth it would similarly be a good adaptation on another planet and evolution would be likely to take the similar course. That is the argument that is being made in some quarters.

Life in the universe | The Economist

10:48
Does life exist anywhere else in the universe? And how did it get started? Scientists are seeking the answers in the cosmos, our solar system and right here on planet Earth. Subscribe NOW to The Economist: http://econ.st/1Fsu2Vj Is there life elsewhere in the universe? Anyone who has pondered the immensity of the cosmos has probably wondered at some time or another whether life exists beyond our planet? The search for life beyond Earth has been buoyed by recent discoveries made by NASA's Kepler telescope - it's looking for planets outside our solar system known as exoplanets. Kepler measures the brightness of distant stars and tracks a stars dimming when a planet passes in front. Up until 1995, exoplanets were purely theoretical - but scientists have since identified thousands of them. in July, NASA scientists announced the discovery of one of their most exciting exoplanets yet - Kepler-452B. Located some fourteen thousand light-years away the planet is in the habitable zone which means it's the right distance from its own Sun and also the right size to potentially be earth-like. There is a limit to how much we can learn about Kepler-452B because of its distance. NASA is launching the James Webb telescope in 2018 to find earth-like planets closer to home so they can study their atmospheres for bio signatures that would indicate the presence of life. But there's another way to learn more about distant planets beyond what the Kepler telescope can tell us, and that is to look for signs of intelligent life. Frank Drake has been listening out for signals of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe for over 50 years. Mr Drake came up with something called the Drake Equation which is a mathematical formula that estimates how many advanced civilizations capable of transmitting signals might exist in the universe. He co-founded the SETI Institute, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence. Scientists at the SETI Institute have been searching for intelligent life for the past few decades. SETI researchers have not come across any signals yet but they say this is to be expected. SETI's efforts recently got a huge boost with a launch of breakthrough Listen, overseen by Martin Rees, Stephen Hawking, and Frank Drake and funded by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Yuri Milner. The project will greatly expand the organization's capacity to search and sift through data. But scientists aren't only interested in discovering life forms light-years away. At first glance our solar system seems like a rather unlikely place to find life beyond Earth but the reason scientists think it is plausible is because of the discovery of a group of organisms called extremophiles that live on earth. Scientists are looking at the moons of Jupiter and Saturn as well as our nearest neighbor Mars. The hope is that if we find further life in our solar system on places like Mars, we will improve our understanding of how easily it might have started elsewhere. But there is another way to answer this question - determining how it started on earth. One man who is trying to come up with an answer to this question is Jack Szostak. In his lab at Harvard University he's trying to determine how easy it is to create life by making it himself. Modern cells are intricate nano scale factories stuffed with thousands of different chemicals each taking part in a complicated and messy web of reactions. Long strands of DNA and codicils genetic information. Shorter strands of RNA carry that information around the cell telling it how to manufacture the proteins that run the chemical reactions it requires to live. It seems unlikely that these systems all evolved at the same time. At the Szostak lab they're focused on two experiments. One to work out how primitive cell membranes could grow and divide into daughter cells, and the other on RNA replication. Dr Szostak and his team have already created a protocell from a blob of lipids which contains RNA. The sticking point at the moment is working out how to make RNA that can copy itself without relying on a helping hand from RNA enzymes. If it is a difficult process reliant upon various bits of luck or circumstance then it is possible that we are a cosmic fluke - one that isn't going to be repeated elsewhere. But if experiments like Dr Szostak show that life emerges easily, then the odds of life appearing elsewhere in the universe look more likely. Perhaps one day when we're looking into the night sky we'll finally know the answer to the question are we alone? Life on Mars: NASA. Evidence of Past Life on the Red Planet. Origins of Life part 3

http://Cosmology.com This video details the scientific evidence proving that microbial life lived on Mars from 4 billion to at least 1 million years ago. A documentary film by Rhawn Joseph, Ph.D. This film is the Third chapter (Part 3), from the 55 minute film: God & The Origin of Life. This video and the associated chapters, are founded on considerable scientific evidence and are not based on religion or conceptions of god. Some viewers leap to irrational conclusions about religion or god based on the title. Each chapter may be viewed, on youtube, in any order. 1: God & the Origin of Life: The Myth of the Organic Soup. /watch?v=ByUod2VmBQY 2: Meteors & the Origins of Life /watch?v=eW9nMJR4wWk 3: Life on Mars /watch?v=Wj4Q1hPRoDs 4: Fossils & Life Found on the Moon /watch?v=M0JWiZK5bUI 5: Origins: Life is Everywhere. Life in Extreme Environments /watch?v=sjsnI3v5WM8 The entire video may be viewed at http://BrainMind.com/Astrobiology.html The purpose of these 5 chapters and this film is to create a scientific revolution and paradigm shift in scientific thinking and in our understanding of life on earth and in the universe. In order to protect the status quo, the "scientific establishment" typically falsely classifies all arguments and evidence challenging their beliefs, as an either/or choice between: science vs religion. There is a 3rd choice, represented by these videos, are based on 100% pure science and have nothing to do with religion or intelligent design. The attack against religion is a "straw dog" and the fraudulent attempts to mischaracterize Dr. Rhawn Joseph's views, are designed to deflect attention from the fact that theories such as "Darwinism" and the "organic soup" have major flaws. In fact, there was no organic soup, at least not on Earth. There is absolutely no evidence in support of the organic soup. By contrast, there is considerable scientific evidence for the views presented here. As detailed in these videos, life is everywhere, and the first creatures to appear on Earth, our ancient ancestors, came from other planets. As detailed in these 6 chapters. 1) The Organic Soup is a myth based on a theology of miracles. 2) Life on Earth first originated on other planets. 3) A star and its solars system, several times the size of our own, exploded in a vast supernova over 5 billion years ago. 4) Mountains of debris including oceans of ice were cast into space, and some of this ejected formed our own solar system and the Earth. 5) This debris contained living creatures and their DNA. 6) Fossils have been found on 5 chronditer meteors formed before the creation of this solar system and which contain physical evidence of this supernova. 7) Fossils have been found on 3 meteors from Mars, and soil samples from the moon 8) A single dormant microbe was discovered in a camera on the moon. 9) Life on Earth can exist in any environment, from the radioactive, well below freezing, in the liquid fire of thermal vents, and at the bottom of the ocean under 9,000 pounds of pressure per square inch. 10) When threatened with death, microbes and simple animals and plants can form microscopic spores, and microbes can come back to life even after 250 million years of dormant slumber. 11) If the Earth were shattered, innumerable creatures could easily survive sheltered in debris, only to come back to life if they land on a life-sustaining world. Conclusion: Life on Earth (and on Mars) came from other planets. Our ancient ancestors, are visitors from the stars. The Next Revolution Has Begun!

If the Moon were replaced with some of our planets

In order show: Mars Venus Neptune Uranus Jupiter Saturn Mercury is intentionally left off as it isn't Much bigger than our Moon (and hence is boring) Everything is correctly scaled. The Axial tilts are not particularly accurate. the moon that flies in front of Saturn is Tethys. It is Tiny. but *very* close Dione would be on a collision course, it's orbital distance from Saturn is Nearly identical to our Moon's orbit around Earth Titan, which is Larger than our Moon, is outside the orbit of Dione **************** on Jupiter, you might be able to make out the 4 big moons, They all have orbits larger than our moons orbit. but I stuck them on the far side of jupiter so that they could be seen so it looks as if they are closer (to Jupiter) than they really are. *************** Video creation method I created an Earth Moon system in 3dsmax, with accurate sizes and accurate orbital distances.. I than matched video of the real Moon with my video camera, against my model. I also researched the correct FOV of my video camera. I used both methods to verify my Virtual camera's FOV (around 47 degrees). I next modeled up the rest of the planets in proper scale (Real values) set at the distance of the moon (also real values), created the animation of them rotating around, and composited the whole bunch. *************** Faq: Scales used in Visualization: Celestial Body Radius (in km) Moon: 1738 Mars: 3397 Venus: 6052 Neptune: 25,269 (equatorial) 24,340 (polar) Uranus: 25,559 (equatorial) 24,973 (polar) Jupiter: 71,490 (equatorial) 66,854 (polar) Saturn: 60,268 (equatorial) 54,360 (polar) (not including rings) Distance to Moon 384,000km Faq: (will expand as needed) 1, We would not be engulfed by Jupiter or any other planet, Jupiter's radius is 71,490 km and the distance to the Moon is 384,000km 2, Saturn is not larger than Jupiter. Saturn + RINGS is larger than Jupiter 3, We would suffer from really really horrible tides, and Volcanoes And some pretty bad Radiation from Jupiter. It *could* strip away our atmosphere, but haven't done the math. Eventually our planet would become tidally locked (that is the same side of Earth would always face Jupiter. we would Still have some bad tides and volcanoes from being in a slightly ellipitical orbit, and from the other moons of Jupiter, and the Sun having tidal influence. I have not calculated how bad the Tides would be. A Simple guess would be at Least 300 times more exaggerated than they are now, This figure could be way off, it's simply an educated guess. 4, We would not be in the rings of Saturn. Or to rephrase that, we would not be in any of the Visable rings of Saturn, There are some very very faint rings that strech out far that we would be in, but i did not model them. 5, We would not be crushed by the Gravity of Jupiter, This is not how orbiting works!. However, at the Roche limit, we WOULD become a new ring system, The Roche limit is *about* 36,000km above the "surface" of Jupiter or 106,000km from the center of Jupiter. So, to reiterate if the center of Jupiter was 106,000km away from the center of the earth, Our planet would become a new Ring system of Jupiter. 6, I did not model the Ring of debris around Uranus (this faq will be deleted in a few days) 7, This is not an ad for any beer company, no one has endorsed me, or this animation, It's just the traffic that drove by. 8, There is Ring Shine on Saturn, but it is very faint, the Rings are reflecting light onto Saturn in the animation. The moon that flies by is Tethys 9, I love Pluto, and Mercury. They are left off because they are too small. Pluto is smaller than our Moon, and Mercury is not significantly larger than our Moon. 10, The "Sun" i used for lighting the planets is slightly off from reality, this was done so that they weren't totally dark and boring 11 FOV is about 47 degrees 12 Orbiting! Yes! we would be a moon of Saturn, Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune. They are much more massive than the Earth. Venus is about the same size of the Earth and we would orbit around a center point between us 13 Rotation rates and axial tilts are not accurate to anything 14 Radius of the Sun is 695,500 km, and hence if it were where our Moon is, we would be engulfed by it

With billions of stars in our galaxy alone, many with their own earth-like planets, how are we to know which ones might be habitable? Well, new research thinks we might just have the clue, and it all has to do with purple bacteria. NASA Finds Most Earth-Like Planet Yet

02:34
Researchers have discovered the most similar planet yet to Earth, 1,400 light-years away. Kepler-452b orbits its star in 385 days, just 20 days longer than our own year. Its star is just 4% larger, a billion and a half years older, and 20% brighter than the sun, meaning 452b is firmly in the “goldilocks” habitable zone that puts the odds of it being rocky, like Earth, between 50-62%. More Information: http://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-kepler-mission-discovers-bigger-older-cousin-to-earth http://www.theguardian.com/science/2015/jul/23/nasa-closest-twin-to-earth-kepler-452b http://www.nytimes.com/2015/07/24/science/space/kepler-data-reveals-what-might-be-best-goldilocks-planet-yet.html?_r=0 Subscribe to TDC: https://www.youtube.com/TheDailyConversation/ Like our page on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/thedailyconversation Join us on Google+ https://plus.google.com/100134925804523235350/posts Follow us on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/thedailyconvo Researchers have discovered the most similar planet yet to Earth, 1,400 light-years away. Scientist Jeff Coughlin says “this is the first possibly rocky, habitable planet around a solar-type star.” All 11 previously discovered exoplanets of similar size and orbit circle smaller, cooler stars. The planet was found by the Kepler telescope, which searches for possible Earth-twins by observing periodic dips in the brightness of stars as planets pass before them, like the way our moon causes an eclipse here on Earth. The Kepler telescope stared at a single patch of the Milky Way for four years before its pointing system failed in 2013, but the mission still succeeded in cataloguing more than 4,600 exoplanet candidates. This means astronomers still have huge amounts of data to sort through and make new findings, like this discovery. With 452b, just over 1,000 of the exoplanet candidates have now been confirmed. 20 years ago this fall, the first exoplanet orbiting a distant star was discovered. And with the successor to Kepler launching in 2017, the pace of discovery is about to increase substantially. The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (or TESS), will be able to cover hundreds of times as much sky as the Kepler mission, and will identify prime targets for further examination by the successor to Hubble, the James Webb Space Telescope, set for an October 2018 launch. Astronomers can now project with some degree of confidence that of the 600 stars within 30 light-years of Earth, there should be roughly 60 potential earth-twins. So, according to Dr. Didier Queloz, the man who co-discovered that first earth-like planet 20 years ago, “If we keep working so well and so enthusiastically, the issue of life on another planet will be solved.” Like and share this video to help others on our little rock become aware of this good news. NASA RECEIVED AN SOS CALL FROM ANOTHER GALAXY?

06:30
NASA detected, intercepted, and decoded a mathematically-based distress signal from a purportedly doomed planetoid outside our own galaxy. The signal was detected in January of 1998 but, however and as it might be expected, it took many years to properly decode the message. NASA experts claim to have intercepted an intergalactic distress call from an alien civilization that had already peaked and was actually dying when saber-tooth tigers still roamed the earth. The 80,000-year-old SOS was received and digitally recorded in late January 1998. But only in 2011 have radio astronomers and language experts found the key to the complex mathematics-based language that enabled them to translate the 'frantic plea for help'. The world press has been suspiciously silent about the startling message, though lengthy scientific reports are scheduled for publication in two professional journals, Radio Astronomy and Universe. According to a highly placed NASA source in Houston, Texas, noted Russian superior officer Gen. in ex-Soviet Union’s army, Viktor Kulikov was leading a United Nations research team from a state-operated observatory 50 miles northwest of Moscow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Kulikov Gen. Victor Kulikov told Universe that the signal emanated from a point beyond the galaxy nearest to our own, Andromeda, and was sent by beings that had apparently achieved a civilization no more advanced than our own here on Earth. “The simple fact that we received and decoded the message proves beyond any doubt that their knowledge and technology were, at the very best, within our reach.” Dr. Kulikov explained. “And while there are years of study ahead of us, I can say with certainty that the death of their civilization was not the result of some cosmic catastrophe. It was the result of the civilization turning on itself, possibly with devastating nuclear weaponry.” Dr Kulikov flatly refused to provide either of the magazines with a transcript of the message, but he did say it began with the plea, “Help us,” and went on to give data pinpointing the exact position of the doomed planet. There was a quite lucid account of apocalyptic devastation, hellish explosions, widespread death and terminal illnesses,” he said. “A Shower of meteors? Perhaps. But what stikes me, and this is just a feeling, is an underlying acceptance of guilt. It’s as if the senders of the message are acknowledging blame for what happened.” "Whatever it was, they apparently had no means to evacuate the remaining population. Interplanetary space travel was available to them, but only on a very limited level. The message makes it very clear that they were trapped on their world,” said Dr. Kulikov. The article was written by two journals. NASA simply managed to not get much publicity. At that time the newspapers wrote very little about this issue. When after thirteen years managed to decrypt the message fails to hide from the media.
